The 'Funda Aesthetics': Trends, Identity, and the Role of Design
Nowadays, we often see interiors on Funda featuring herringbone floors, black steel doors, and Aesop soap bottles. What does this say about our spatial identity and the role of design? During this Barcam, we explore the ‘Funda Aesthetic’ and the influence of trends on both residents and designers. We discuss the impact of social media, the role of interior architects in this transformation, and whether this style is a temporary trend or a repetition of previous design cycles.
On the panel:
-
Jeroen Atteveld (Architect/Partner at Heren 5 Architecten)
We dream of a castle, but buy a terraced house. Dingemans and Deijs Architects, along with Heren 5 Architecten, used big data from Funda 7 to design the ultimate housingconcept of the dream home, ‘het Fundahuis’. -
Jessica Kuitenbrouwer (Trend and lifestyle journalist, columnist, and podcast host of Havermelkelite, the Podcast)
In her columns and podcast Havermelkelite, she holds up a mirror to her peers—critical yet affectionate. She explores topics such as how Le Creuset became a status symbol in the yuppie kitchen and questions how curated vintage has taken over the luxury market. -
Elvi Huizinga (Styling & Finance and partner at JA Makelaardij)
Ja! Makelaardij is a real estate agency operating in Amsterdam’s dynamic housing market. They buy and sell apartments and provide styling advice to individuals looking to sell their homes.
We invite (interior) architects and enthusiasts to join us in reflecting on the significance of these interiors and how design shapes the identity of our homes and ourselves.
