Join our Monthly Amsterdam Architects Café Barcam

Every first Thursday of the month, Arcam hosts “Barcam” (bar+arcam), a reoccurring monthly networking event tailored for professionals in architecture, urban planning, and project development. Join us for affordably priced drinks and an insightful short program centered around a topic.

This Thursday’s looking sunny, which means: time for an outdoor Barcam! Come hang out with us for drinks, pizza, and feel free to bring your swimwear.

Inviting Public Design

How welcoming is our public space?

Hostile architecture is popping up more and more—think benches with hard metal dividers, armrests that make lying down impossible, or spikes placed where you might want to rest. These subtle yet powerful design choices are often aimed at exclusion—frequently at the expense of vulnerable groups in the city.

In this Barcam Buiten Special, we’ll dive deeper with Floor van Ditzhuyzen into the question: how hospitable is public space really? And how can architecture and urban design help create a more inclusive and accessible city?

Floor van Ditzhuyzen is an architect and researcher with a passion for public space. Since 2020, she’s been writing the blog Public Space Detective, where she observes, questions, and interprets both ordinary and unusual phenomena in the urban landscape.
