19:00—00:00
Arcam

Mark Your Calendar! On Saturday, November 2nd, more than 70 museums will open their doors for Museumnacht Amsterdam 2024. Arcam is also participating again, this time adorned with pink vibes.

With the exhibition Peeping Spaces, we unveil queer subcultures and their heritage, ranging from 18th-century ‘laugh houses’ to modern sex work venues.

Programme

As part of the Peeping Spaces exhibition, Pleasure Society and Arcam invite you to contribute ideas about Queer and Sex-Positive Spaces in Amsterdam. What would the city look like if you could design it? How are these spaces integrated into the daily life of the city?

Panel Discussion: During Museumnacht, we will engage in a panel discussion about future possibilities.

Designing Collages: After the discussion, everyone will have the opportunity to design collages together with some of the panel members. We will conclude the evening with a series of collages that illustrate what the future of Queer and Sex-Positive Spaces in Amsterdam could look like.

Exhibitions at Arcam: If you’re not in the mood to participate or listen, you can also visit the Peeping Spaces exhibition, which is open all evening. Additionally, you can experience the Arcam pavilion with your eyes closed using the audio-touch model, explore the influence of money on the city’s appearance in the exhibition Form Follows Finance, and discover Mercatorplein with your ears in The Sensitive City’ by Jacopo Grilli.

Panellists
  • Marian Rosa is a Brazilian-Dutch researcher, producer, and writer based in Amsterdam. She graduated in Architecture and Urban Planning from Escola da Cidade (São Paulo) and holds an MA in Moving Images from the Sandberg Institute (Amsterdam). She recently completed a post-master in performance studies at a.pass (Brussels). Currently, she works as the coordinator of the Architectural Design department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Her research focuses on sexuality as a vehicle for political ideology within art, architecture, and digital culture.
  • Bear wears many hats – historian, performer, activist, educator, and former pornographer, among others. When he’s not lecturing to students in gender and sexuality studies on sex work, trans-related topics, drag, or BDSM, he might be found leading tours through the oldest parts of Amsterdam, talking about local queer history or explaining how things work in the Red Light District. Bear is a team member at the Prostitution Information Center, a sex worker-led information service that advocates for the rights of sex workers and educates about the Red Light District and sex work in the Netherlands.
  • Madeleine is the manager of the Amsterdam sex shop Mail & Female, which focuses on inclusive, feminist, queer, and women-friendly erotica. Madeleine has worked at the shop for over 15 years, where she curates the collection and teaches classes on sexual techniques such as hand jobs, fingering, and masturbation lessons. She aims to break taboos around sexuality and create a safe, open environment for everyone who visits the store. Her work is about more than just erotica; it also involves human connection, safety, and experimenting within boundaries.
