FULL! Spatial Resistance Workshop: The Designer as (Climate) Activist, with Nick Newman and Noortje Weenink

30.10.25

15:00—18:00
Academie van Bouwkunst

THIS WORKSHOP IS FULLY BOOKED!

Architects have often used their design skills to highlight social injustices. Yet architecture and activism are frequently seen as opposing fields. For Nick Newman (author of Protest Architecture), connecting architecture with (climate) activism is a core part of his practice—not just from a personal conviction, but also as a professional approach. How can you use your design skills to serve a greater purpose?

Nick Newman and Noortje Weenink (IABR) will share, during a fast-paced design charrette, how to use your design skills to create protest structures.

The workshop

On Thursday afternoon, October 30, you’ll get hands-on experience designing protest architecture. Starting at the Academy of Architecture, Nick Newman and Noortje Weenink (IABR) will guide you to Waterlooplein, where you’ll explore how site-specific designs for demonstrations and protests can be created. Afterwards, you’ll develop your own design intervention.
