The Tour

From the 20th century onwards, Amsterdam has increasingly positioned itself as an international cultural city. Major museums such as the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum have been renovated or expanded, while historic buildings have been given new luxury functions. In short, the Museum Quarter is developing into a cultural showcase of the city.

The Museum Quarter shows how Amsterdam has invested in culture during this period as a driver of international appeal. The renovation and expansion of museums, together with new functions such as luxury hotels, strengthen the city’s image as a global centre for art, design, and culture. Architecture here is used not only to renew buildings, but also to tell the story of a modern, cosmopolitan city.

The guide takes you along a number of important cultural buildings in Amsterdam. You will pass the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, where old and new blend seamlessly, and the guide will tell you more about the renovation of the Rijksmuseum and future plans. You will also learn more about the creation of the luxury Conservatorium Hotel.
