Theme
The slowed-down city

From December 8, 2023, a new speed limit of 30 km/h will be implemented in the majority of Amsterdam’s streets. What consequences will this have for the city and its experience? What space is created by driving more slowly? And what does the slowed-down city sound like?

Studio Jaywalk has conducted research on ‘conquering traffic space’ in response to this adjustment. Their research is part of the current Arcam exhibition Slow How – spatial slowdown.

In this exhibition, we analyse, based on four areas—Ruigoord, Kop van Java, Marineterrein, and Holendrecht—how spatial deceleration can play a role in preserving existing or developing new qualities such as cultural and spatial innovation, reuse, social connection, tranquility, and ecology.

During Barcam #6, Studio Jaywalk will briefly explain their research, and we will brainstorm about design possibilities for Amsterdam.
